Artist statement

Since childhood my fascination for architectural forms and monumental structures has led me to consider scaling my work and experimenting with new materials, techniques and processes.

The core of my practice begins with the manipulation of a material by hand, in a primal and instinctive way. The shapes that evolve through this process are not preconceived or predetermined, they are objects of chance and uncertainty. I often compare these fluid forms to the sinuous curves of the waves.

Having spent my entire life beside the sea, this natural and constantly changing landscape, observed daily from my window, has had a profound yet subconscious effect. Ever changing and shifting, like a metaphor for life, the sea is unpredictable in nature, like the forms that evolve through my tactile connection with the material.

My current work marries digital technology, architectural techniques and craft sensibilities and questions the interplay between form and space, light and shadow, and how we interact in the presence of large physical objects, designed to transform and simultaneously divide space.
